Moab car show
This was taken last spring on my way home from AZ. I was hanging out in Canyonlands (love) and Arches National Park (not too shabby either). The city park in Moab was having a car show and noticed this awesome paint job. An older man was driving it and couldn't get his door open to get in and cars were leaving due to the rain. That is one thing about traveling- you find great surprises.
It's again winter cold but the sun is shinning. Not going out since I have a mild flu bug. Is that my excuse for not shooting anything fresh? Bending the rules just a little. Oh well, it's my blog.....Well Judy, how am I doing?

Steam Engine #1242
This is "Old Sadie" as she was nick named, and was the oldest coal burning steam locomotive in WY. Union Pacific donated the engine to Cheyenne in 1955.

Oil to Gas
Not sure what these are called, but they are part of the process of refining oil into gas at Frontier Refinery. When my Dad worked there he would talk about the "cat" being down- short for catalytic converter.

Friends in the park
Great "find" in the park. My good friend Maryann and her daughter Angela were on a short walk. Angela was stir crazy from her hip surgery and needed a break--even with crutches. Wonderful seeing both of them.

Aspens from the Past
This was taken in 2014 on Road 10. Judy Myers and I had a great time that day doing a photo trip. Yesterday while out, the landscape had again returned to winter ugly. Also could use something upbeat after spending the morning in Health Reach while my Mother got an x-ray of her foot. Small bone broken and she gets to wear a Velcro boot for awhile.
I am glad I had to foresight to name my blog "year of photos", instead of shooting a year of photos. I am committed to taking photos all year, but will jump back into the past sometimes.

College of Agriculture
This unique light is on the front of the College of Agriculture building at UW. Old and classy.
This is the front door of the building. The architecture above the door is interesting, although the door is a standard modern door. The above light/s are on each side of the door.

Igloo in Prexy's Pasture
Some energetic students at UW constructed an igloo in Prexy's Pasture in Laramie. Prexy's Pasture got its name when the first President of UW would pasture his horse there.

Cheyenne's First Power Plant
I have driven by this building all my life and watched the deterioration time and vandals have done.to it. The glass in the windows on this side used to have some framing and glass which has since been shot out. This was Cheyenne's first steam power plant.
This is a close up and I like the different angles of the building and the decaying look.
On the West side there are lots of windows and you can see through the building to the other side.
A stairway, and lath and board can be seen in one window. Another window actually has some glass left - with a few bullet holes.
This is the south side. The property was purchased earlier in January and they have replace some windows and a new door. Two entrepreneurs purchased it with the idea of a possible restaurant and rent out other parts of the building. They will need very deep pockets to get this old building usable again. It was probably built better than the prison in Rawlins.

Lunch with Bailey
Yesterday on Bailey's lunch break from her All State Orchestra practice, we had lunch at Jimmy Johns. Concert was fantastic.
I set the camera to inside mode and let it do the figuring. It jumped the ISO to 500 to get the shot. White wall didn't help either.

Snow again
Yesterday we again woke up to snow. We were expecting an inch or two and got four to five. This was taken on my way to the grocery store at Cahill Park.

Ice fishing
Most of the time the park has something going on. This day, at 29 degrees, there were a half dozen groups ice fishing. Here is one that has caught a fish.

Dying Embers
It's the weekend- yeah. Yesterday I was gone 80% of the time with gym and taking Mom to the DR. When I got home, it was snowing lightly and house was cold - 60- because of lack of sun. Started the wood stove and this is what was left before I went to bed. Sun today, snow tomorrow again.

Old and New Architecture
This is a contrast of two building at the Univ. of WY in Laramie. The first is Old Main
the original building of UW. UW was started 3 years before WY became a state. Love the stones, rounded windows and doors, roof top peaks and windows. The two rounded door ways were removed earlier as was the tower above the main door. The second one is recent and is UW Art Museum. It is very modern, possibly on the pyramids theme. It is round which you can not see in the photo. The entry angles are interesting as are the windows to the sky inside.
But I prefer the 1886 one and feel the Art Museum is less than beautiful.

Funky flowers
With my walk yesterday, I decided to take a detour out of the cold.
Went into the Botanical Gardens to see what flowers they were
growing. These may be orchards, but not sure., and are very
lacy and delicate looking

Gate on Happy Jack
This is a gate to a private residence that I have driven past for years.
Peter posted it last year and while returning from Laramie I stopped.
The post a photo a day is getting me to take photos where I used to
just drive by. With the view on the back of the camera, I was able
to hold the camera above my head to capture the piece of farm
equipment. - That you can barely see! Win some, lose some

Patterns on a Bench
The sun created interesting square patterns on the bench slates.
Photo was taken in the Rose Garden in Lions Park.

Mallard Hanging Out in the Wetlands
This duck was swimming with a few others in the wetlands at Lions Park.
There is not much open water at this time of year and they are enjoying it. I took one
step down the snowy embankment and he turned his head which is what I wanted.

Macro of Poinsettia
This was taken while I was experimenting with the new camera. After reading the manual- duh- I realized that I could take a photo as close as 4 inches.
